Recent sexual offenders convicted in the Courts
The following individuals have all been convicted of serious sexual offences between 2022 and 2023.
Nicole Thompson-Brown of Kelvin Way Birmingham was employed at a local children's care home but abused her position to sexually exploit a child. She was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court on 16 June 2023.
Carly Elizabeth Dear, a 46-year-old former Maidstone Grammar School for Girls teacher has now been jailed for six years at Canterbury Crown Court in January 2022. She groomed, controlled and repeatedly sexually assaulted a pupil. Dear’s victim, who was subjected to five years of abuse, broke down in tears as she recalled how her childhood had been ripped away.
Ben Breakwell, a former music teacher has been jailed after grooming schoolgirls and having sexual relationships with them. Breakwell exploited his position to engage girls in sexual activity between 2014 and 2017 in Hammersmith, west London. The professional tenor singer, who took up teaching at a London secondary school, was caught out in 2017 when the girls, who both believed Breakwell was their boyfriend, found out about the true extent of his sexual behaviour.
Douglas Speight, a former Leeds Headteacher, has been jailed for the sex abuse of a boy. Speight, 44, pleaded guilty to 15 charges, including the sex abuse of a 15-year-old boy. He has been sentenced to a total of 12 years for sexual activity with a child, forcing a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent images of a child and voyeurism. Speight, a schoolteacher who abused his position of trust and made sexual advances to a 15-year-old-boy as well as filming young children naked in a changing room, has been branded as a “highly dangerous predatory paedophile”.
Angus Corrie from Swindon has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for raping a woman. Corrie, 21, of Drove Road, Swindon admitted to the offences of rape and oral rape in an incident in Swindon in the early hours of October 30 last year. Corrie targeted the victim who was visiting his home with two friends following a night out. Despite the victim refusing several times, Corrie forced himself on to her and raped her before she was able to escape to the bathroom.
Assad Khan, a Bradford taxi driver who drove an intoxicated woman home after a night out and raped her while she was almost unconscious on a sofa has been jailed for nine years. Khan, who had worked as a taxi driver for more than 20 years, used his victim’s bank card to steal £250 from her account instead of withdrawing the £25 for the fare when they stopped at a cashpoint in the early hours.
Abdul Khan, a sex predator was convicted of rape after brave victims come forward. Khan raped the two victims at the same location in Ward End, Birmingham.
Marwen Darwish, an illegal immigrant who raped an unconscious university student has been jailed for eight years. Darwish carried the victim, who he found drunk and distressed, into a secluded alleyway in Newcastle in January. At Newcastle Crown Court, Darwish, of Parish Court, Byker, admitted rape, theft and possessing a class C drug.
Francis Henshaw from Heywood Greater Manchester has been sentenced to nine years in prison with a two-year extended licence after being convicted of rape and sexual assault. The court heard that Henshaw aged 42, pressured the victim to join him in a back street, where he proceeded to sexually assault her. A member of the public intervened in the incident and led the victim away. Henshaw committed a further offence in December 2022, when he approached a woman on a night out in Rochdale Town Centre. A short time later, he sexually assaulted and raped her in a secluded area.
Ireland Murdoch, an ex-Met Police officer, 27, has been jailed for raping a woman and searching her name in a police database. Murdoch admitted to searching his victim’s name in the official police database after she reported that he had assaulted her. Murdock, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on 29 June 2023 for raping a woman, who was known to him, at her home in Lambeth, south London, in September 2021. He was at the time a serving Met Police officer. The disgraced ex-PC, who before his dismissal was attached to the Central North Command Unit, was also jailed for an additional six weeks for searching his victim’s name and accessing her restricted crime report on a police database “without any reason to do so,” the force added. He did this after the woman reported that he had assaulted her.
Jay Stephen Perren, a "devious and manipulative" rapist who attacked a baby and sexually exploited children has been jailed for 30 years. Teesside Crown Court heard Perren, 34, also recorded the abuse for his own "depraved pleasure". Perren, of Hartington Road, Stockton, admitted 25 offences including five rapes, one of which involved a child under 12 months.
James Boyle, a former police officer turned criminal defence barrister has been jailed for 16 years for the rape and indecent assault of a teenage girl more than 30 years ago. Boyle, now aged 69, was a serving officer with Cambridgeshire Police when the offending happened between 1986 and 1991. Boyle, of Sunbury Place, Edinburgh, was working as a criminal defence barrister at the time of his arrest. Judge Philip Grey said Boyle told his victim, at the time of a rape when she was under the age of 16: “I know this is wrong but I just can’t help myself.” Sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court, the judge said that Boyle had “evaded responsibility for such serious offending” for more than 30 years.
Abu Musa and Abulrahman Hassan, who both raped a woman in her own home have been jailed for a total of 25 years and 9 months after the "sickening" attack. Musa, 21, and Hassan, 22, gave their victim and a another woman a lift home after a night out in Nantwich in June 2022. The women met Musa, of Dyke Street, Stoke-on-Trent, and Hassan, of Eden Street, Oldham, in a Nantwich takeaway after 3am on Sunday, June 12 2022. After returning home to Winsford, the second woman left and went to bed. Musa and Hassan stayed with the victim, who was already intoxicated, and plied her with further alcohol before raping and sexually assaulting the woman. The incident was reported to police and the pair were arrested.
